Birds of Interior Alaska
Songbirds: White-crowned Sparrow
Zonotrichia leucophrys

Three white bands behind a yellow seed beak are good clues
you have found a White-crowned Sparrow.

Although they feed in actively in brushy areas, White-crowns are
often spotted along trails and on the ground shuffling leaves about looking for food.

With their distinctive song and appearance, White-crowns are a good
songbird choice for introducing novices to birding.
