Birds of Interior Alaska
Shorebirds: Semipalmated Sandpiper
Calidrus pusilla
Small and straight-billed, Semipalmated Sandpipers are easily mistaken for Least Sandpipers, Western Sandpipers, or even baby shorebirds.

Semipalmated Sandpipers lack spotting on their flanks and have dark-olive colored legs.
Their bill is straight and seems a bit thick for such a small bird.

The bill on Least Sandpipers and Western Sandpipers is slender, with a slight downward curve. Least Sandpipers are also somewhat darker above with yellowish legs--caution--muddy legs look darker!
Western Sandpipers (adults) also have small < markings on their flanks.
