The Art of Alaska Project offers digital images of student art in the style of traditional Alaskan peoples. These wonderful art projects are created as a 2-week take-home project during a cross-curriculum study of Alaska, including Alaska's people, history, geography, resources, symbols, and songs.

The Art of Alaska assignment: My first grade scholars choose their art projects from a selection of guided activities found in the craft book "Hands-On Alaska: Art Activities for All Ages" by Yvonne Young Merrill. Students are given 2 weeks to do research and complete their project. While this project is intended to involve family members, the art work should be done by the student. The art should reflect the decorative style of the Alaskan people who originally created this art. Each student artist fills out a one-page research guide sheet to help prepare them for their oral presentation and test. Using the research guide sheet, each student presents their project to the class as an oral report. Students earn extra credit by presenting their project to other students in our school when we turn our classroom into a museum of art in the style of Alaska's native peoples!
